Martin – Turiec Gallery

The Turiec Gallery was founded in 1983 and took contact with the long-standing traditions of the Martin nationale centre whose efforts climaxed in the foundation of the Slovak National Gallery (1933 – mid-50s). The Turiec Gallery is primarily oriented to the beginnings of modern Slovak fine art and to several eminent personalities connected with the Turiec region. Hence, the focus of its acquisition, scientific-research and exhibition interes lies with period of the 30s and 40s when Martin was a significant cultural centre. At that stage we find such outstanding personalities active in the regionas G.Mallý, M.M. Mitrovský, P.J. Kern, J. Hanula, M. Benka, M.A. Bazovský, J. Alexy, M. Galanda, Ľ. Fulla etc. The Gallery also introduces the development of book production, which became reflected in the setting up of the exhibitive and competitive project the Biennials of Book Art Martin. Another project is the Biennials of Fantasy, an international competition and review of children's artistic work, organized since 1987. The exhibitions and another events organized in the Gallery is meant to encompass the entire range of the modern artistic expression, its trends.
