Presov – Saris Gallery
The Saris Gallery was set up in 1956 as a Regional Gallery at Presov. It has its present name since 1991 and is one of the earlierst regional galleries in Slovakia. It initiated its exhibition activity in 1957. Initially it was housed in the former Evangelical College (a national cultural monument) in the northern part of the Main Square. In 1981 it acquired two monument-protected buildings – two former burgher houses (originally Gothic, with Renaissance and Baroque reconstructions) – in the urban monument reservation – they have been reconstructed for the needs of the gallery which has its headquarters here The gallery builts its collection fund from the base, throught its own research and acquisition mainly by purchase. It focuses primarily on northeastern Slovakia, but also looks for, acquires and researches works by autors from eastern Slovakia, prominent personalities of modern Slovak fine art and those connected with the region.
