Zilina – STANICA – open cultural space

The project Railway Station (Stanica) started by reconstruction and making use of the space of still operating railway station Zilina-Zariecie (free of charge contribution by The Railways of Slovak Republic). Nowadays, we are operating half-reconstructred spaces of the station, including display for visual arts, ateliers and workshops, café and waiting-room, info-center and reading-room, and multifunctional presentation venue for theatre, dance, concerts, discussions and projections. The project of the Stanica cultural center is, already for the second year, the main activity of NGO Truc sphérique and the conclusion of certain period of development and fulfilment of our mission. The project of Stanica is freely linked to the international wide spectrum of cultural institutions, created upon the platform of civic initiatives of young people and artists that have vitalized vacant factory halls, industrial objects, stations and commercial centers (e.g. the centers, associated in Trans Europe Halles network that Stanica is also a member of – more on www.teh.net). Truc sphérique has started to prepare the idea of transformation of the old railway station Zilina-Zariecie into a cultural center already since 2002. Nowadays, the space is under reconstruction and we face “a real utopia” of its finishing and opening. One of many openings, in fact, as Stanica has during the whole period of reconstruction has been enlivened by events, concerts, theatre, exhibitions, lectures and, since September 2004, also by children Ateliers and workshops.
