The roots of the Postal Museologie reach to the time of the Millennium exposition in Budapest which was opened on 2 May 1896. Commodities exhibited there from the Kingdom of Hungary Postal History become the foundation of the collections of The Postal Museum established after the exhibition in Budapest. The institution of The Postal Museum is related to the formation of Czechoslovakia and issuing the first post stamp in the new republic on 18 December 1918. The Postal Museum was constituted in Prague in order to saving and documentation of the Post offices, Telecommunications, Radiocommunication development and Postage Stamp Production. The idea of creation of independet Postal Museum in Slovakia became actual only on the 40s years of the 20 century. In 1942 was instituted Philatelic Department at The Slovak National Museum in Martin. Until on the 80s years it was managed ambition of establishing Resort workstation of museum type in Slovakia brought to successful finisch.The Documentary Centrum of the Communications was established pursuant to resolution of Slovak Republic Government No.200 of 1 April 1981. The Head of the Communications Dipl. Ing. Ondrej Kováč by the letter Ref. No 10496/1984 – AS of October 1984 applied of Managing Director of The Directorate of Posts Bratislava Dpt. František Jurík to provide for the Documentary Centrum of the Communications which was opened at the Post Office 1 in Bratislava on 8 November 1985. By the removal of the Headquarters of The Slovak Post, s. o .e. to Banská Bystrica in 1996 there were created suitable premises, based by the name Documentary Centre of the Slovak Post, s .o .e., and on this base this Task centre was removed from Bratislava to Banská Bystrica under the name Documentary Centrum of The Slovak Post ,s .o .e., at the end of 1997. Ministry of Culture of the Slovak republic, NO.MK 2225/2000 – 400,the Documentary Centrum of the Slovak Post, s. o. e. was registered in the Register of museums of Slovak Republic as The Slovak Post, Postal Museum.
