Galanta – Homeland Museum
The first stimulus for setting up a museum in the Galanta district came from the ethnography circle formed by local teachers in 1958. The Local Council constituted as of April 1, 1969, the District Museum at Galanta (since January 1, 1990 the Homeland Museum). Since 1970 it is housed in a neo-Gothic manor at Galanta. The manor, as the family mansion of the Estherházys was built on earlier foundations and rebuilt in 1860 in the style of Romantic English Tudor Gothic. General reconstruction works are being carried on it since 1986 and stopped in 1990, hence, the Museum is temporarily located in the building of a former bank in the centre of the town. Beside museum offices, there are also exhibition halls here.
