Hlohovec – Homeland Museum

The Homeland Museum at Hlohovec was established in 1959. It is a typical regional museum of homeland character. The basic branches of social and natural sciences are represented in its collections. The expositions are situated in the main part of the museum which is part of the Franciscan monastery. The monastery was built in 1942 on orders of Vavrinec Ujlaky and now is a protected cultural monument. The exposition hall of the museum is situated in 6, Rázusová Street.

Expositions:

  • The exhibition of historical furniture is situated in the original monastery's dinning room (refectory). The exhibition of style furniture documents basic types of furniture sets from the 18th – 19th century.
  • The exposition Hlohovec – the feudal town represents the older history of Hlohovec.
  • Natural exposition of Hlohovec surroundings is formed by the samples of the vertebrate animals which live in the close region to Hlohovec.
  • Exposition Woman's national costume shows typical parts of woman's national costumes of Hlohovec, Trnava and Piešťany regions.
  • In the Archaeological exposition there are exhibited archaeological findings representing the periods of the primeval age and the earlier historical period.
  • The exposition of an ancient furniture and graphic art is installed in a depicted burgher interior from the 18th and 19th century. The most valuable portraits are those of members of the Erdődy family.
