Levoca – Museum of Special Education
The Museum of Special Education at Levoča is a branch facility of the Bratislava's Museum of Education and Pedagogy. The basis of its collections came to be the so-called Gaňo's Library (V.Gaňo, 1893–1966, a pioneer of special teaching in Slovakia), supplemented since with further documents and exhibits. The museum is housed in a restored building in the historical core of the urban monument reserve at Levoča, reconstructed in 1982–88. This is a burgher house from the end of the 15th century with well- preserved architectural Renaissance elements from the period after 1550. Its present appearance is from the reconstruction in the 2nd half of the 19th century.
