Martin Ethnographical Museum -

It is the oldest branch of the Slovak National Museum. It was founded after the World War II and since then it has specialised in complex documentation of way of life and culture of the Slovak nation since the earliest times up to present. The museum, by its collection, documents productive techniques and technologies, ways of living, eating, clothing, culture, social occasions, habits and customs, folk productive culture and artistic manifestations of different ethnic groups in Slovakia. The Slovak National Museum – Ethnographic Museum continues tradition of the Matica Museum (1870–1873) and the National House Museum (1890–1896), whose collection is included in the present exhibitions. In 1932 the museum moved into a new building built under the project of an architect M. M. Harminec. The expositions arose from 1933 to 1938.
