Martin – Andrej Kmet Museum

The Slovak National Museum – Andrej Kmeť Museum functions as a museum folk centre for the Turiec region. It was opened in 1964. The museum contains more than 175,000 exhibits, of which 8,700 are of social and 166,600 of natural science fields. The most valuable ones are paintings from a gallery of the Révayovsky family, an Ivan Zbiňovsky collection of exotic butterflies, a part of a herbarium and zoological exhibits collected by Andrej Kmeť. The museum is sited in the first building of the Slovak National Museum, which was founded thanks to Andrej Kmeť – the father of Slovak museums. The building itself has been registered as a National Cultural Monument.
