Martin – Martin Benka Museum
This permanent exposition shows authentic environment and work of the national artist Martin Benka (1888–1971), one of the most important persons of the generation of Slovak artistic Moderna, who presented life and myth of the country. The museum was opened in1973 in a house where the artist worked and where he died. The first exhibits were collected during his life when in 1960 the artist gave part of his works (5200) to the state and let visitors see his atelier and his art gallery. In 1971 his works (3200), financial and writing inheritance, house and atelier equipment as well as his private things became a part of the museum exposition. Preserved interiors as it was the artist's last will show the works of the painter and illustrator.
