Povazska Bystrica – Homeland Museum

Homeland Museum in Považská Bystrica was founded in 1984. The expositions are situated in Baroque manor-house in Orlové, which was built in Renaissance in 1612 and re-built in Baroque style in the l8th century. In 1975 the complete reconstruction of the house began and since the ist May 1984 it has been opened to the public.

The first owners of manor-house were the Balass family of well-known Hungarian aristocratic descent. Among further owners were for example – the emperor's clerk from Vienna, prince Hohenlohe-Majláth and the Czech violin virtuoso Jan Kubelík. At present the manor-house has been used for the exhibition of national history and a part of it is occupied by the concern enterprise Považské strojárne. In 1984 the exhibitions of archaeology, ethnography and natural history were made accessible to the public.
