The Archaeological Museum of Puchov Culture is situated in a County House, which is one of few of historical monuments preserved in Puchov. The baroque building was built by Irmich Marczibanyi at the end of 18th Century. The building was originally used as a salt warehouse and an office. It is a valuable artistic and historical evidence of historical development, way of life and surroundings of the community. Baron Emil Hoening's amateur researches in Skala in Puchov let us become familiar with one of the most significant cultures of the early history on the Slovak territory – the Puchov Culture. This important culture had its ups at the end and at the beginning of the eras, when it covered the widest part of land. The most significant finding places are remains of large fortified settlements, which used to be strategic centres of its regions, centres of cult and cultural development. Except for Skala in Puchov, the most significant centres, among others, were Divinok, Vysny Kubin, Liptovska Mara and Spissky Hrad. Archeological museum The Puchov Culture was formed by original inhabitants of the lands who probably had come from a part of present ex-Yugoslavia as well as by Celtic colonists and those from present Romania. The Celtic tribe of Kotins became the dominant compound and it was described, by Roman authors, as the highest part of the Slovak class with a note that they were excellent founders and smiths. The culture still has not been seen as an important part of cultural development of north Slovakia, and the exposition is only a small example of cultural variety of the region. Extraordinary development of all elements of life, which took place at the time of the Puchov culture, appeared once again in 13–14th centuries when towns were founded.
