Spisska Bela – Jozef Maximilian Petzval Museum
The Exhibition is a specialized one, installed in the native house of the pioneer of modern photographic optics J.M. Petzval (1807–1891). It documents the development of photographic and cinematographic technique in connection with his life and work. The exhibition, open in 1968, shows a rare, all-metal daguerreo-type instrument with Petzval's lens which he had calculated in 1840 and which was produced by the German optician Voigtländer, then cameras and the most diverse devices and aids from Petzval's times up to the latest models of the photographic technique. A unique specimen is a so-called Krüger's detective pocket chamber in the form of a book. On view are also specimens of the first reporters' and travelers' aids and instruments for the nacent stereophotography. A special part of the exhibition is devoted to the early beginnings of cinematography, including also two large-size cine-appartuses for celluloid film.
